Amber L. Carter
Writer. Professional Intuitive. Pop Culture Obsessive.

Hi! I’m Amber.

I’m a humor writer and novelist who’s authored three books; listens to a (probably) unhealthy amount of Yacht Rock & ’80s pop; has lived in exotic locales such as India, England, & Oregon; and will never not watch a Law & Order marathon if a Law & Order marathon is available to me.

Welcome to my rad little internet space! Here you’ll find:

not-totally-accurate TV recaps

+ Personal musings and history lessons on '80s and '90s pop culture that will prove that I was always super cool and popular and always had real friends and never once considered MTV and Anne of Green Gables books to be my best friends (for more proof, please see the photo of me to the left).

random radness about TVmoviesbookstravelfooddating, and everyday adventures.

A storyteller since birth (also referred to as "a very imaginative child” or “a compulsive liar”, depending on which teacher you asked) I started my first blog in 2004 called An Amber Colored Life (’s Top 10 Minnesota Blogs That Deserve Your Attention in 2010; The Only Personal Blog @kwatt Reads; “more teacher hot than wicked hot” – gangsta02 on Since then I’ve been featured in places like MediumThrillist and The Creative Party, and in the critically-acclaimed web video series Chasing Windmills. I joined + wrote for a crazy fun start-up, created a super fun calendar that objectified men for charity, gained national recognition for my Bachelor/ette recaps, hosted two podcasts, and once had ’70s heartthrob Robby Benson write on my Facebook Page that I had “a really nice blog.”

(And yeah, finding out that Robby Benson actually knows who I am was worth all those things combined. Have you SEEN the late ’70s definitive movie about figure skating known as Ice Castles? That guy was a goddamn dreamboat!)

When I’m not blogging, you can find me working on my next book, obsessing over + making GIFs from of my favorite Wham!/George Michael videos, cracking the spine on a new readcontributing pieces of writing to sites I love, watching all of the Bravo shows (except the ones about cooking. My life is hard enough without having to watch people MAKE DELICIOUS FOOD THAT I CAN’T EVEN EAT), dancing around my living room to The Weeknd, catching up on my favorite podcasts, giving talks that combine themes on personal development with pop culture (complete with Power Point Presentations packed with adorkable fan art), and drinking coffee.

I am always, always drinking coffee.

But enough about me!

(I mean…it’s not, I could talk forever, talking about myself is like my #1 Favorite Thing To Do In The Entire World)

Let me get to know you by getting into each other’s lives on these cool new places called “social media channels”:

Twitter + Instagram + Facebook + Pinterest + LinkedIn (yes, I still use this)

I would also be absolutely chuffed (that’s an English word, an English word I learned whilst living in England. Did you know I used to live in England?) if you signed up for my email newsletter. You’ll get the week’s worth of posts dropped into your inbox every weekend and you can unsubscribe any time (I mean…you can if you want me to show up to your house late at night, crying and asking why you’re doing this to me, to us).

You can also join the super awesome VIP Book List, where you’ll get delightfully infrequent updates on book news, signings, speaking events, reader swag, PLUS access to the password-protected spaces on this site, which boasts a bounty of bonus chapters, soundtracks, and other super fun book-related stuff!

And, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for stopping by – I never take one single click or comment for granted, and when you take the time to check out my stuff, it really matters to me!
